If Louis Martini were in the Medoc, it would have been historically categorized as a fourth growth that performs like a second growth. Even though Gallo bought the winery almost 25 years ago, it has continued to perform as an exemplar of traditional Napa Valley Cabernet that valued structure as much as fruit. This one is firm without being tight, with flavors of cassis and blackberries and accent notes of brambles, wood and savory tannins.
