A blend of Merlot (80%) and Cabernet Franc (20%), the Chateau Barde-Haut 2018 expresses the grandeur of the Saint-Emilion terroir.
At the tasting, the Chateau Barde-Haut 2018 displays a dark purple colour. The intensely aromatic nose springs from the glass, revealing generous aromas of ripe black fruit, creme de cassis, and blueberry jam. The wine then evolves spicy notes of cinnamon and cigar box perfumes, further enhanced by fresh aniseed and licorice. The wine weaves the palate with plenty of delicate and juicy fruit, structured with firm, velvety tannins and delicious fruity and spicy notes. Very fresh and delicious, the finish lingers long. A great vintage of Chateau Barde-Haut in a Saint-Emilion Grand Cru of character.

Showing brilliantly, the 2018 Château Barde-Haut comes from a beautiful, cooler terroir on the eastern side of Saint-Emilion. It has a wonderful sense of purity and elegance as well as ripe black cherry and blueberry fruits to go with medium to full-bodied aromas and flavours of chocolate, spring flowers, violets, and a kiss of chalky minerality. It's beautifully balanced and has ultra-fine tannins as well as a gorgeous finish. It reminds me of the 2016, with maybe a touch more up-front charm. Give it 4-5 years if you can (it's drinking beautifully today as well) and it's going to evolve for 20-25 years or more.
