Similar to Broken Barrel's Small Batch, their Cask Strength uses an “Oak Bill” which is 40% French oak staves, 40% ex-bourbon cask staves, and 20% sherry cask staves. The company states that “After a minimum of two years in new charred oak barrels, the bourbon is dumped into steel tanks, where each batch of Broken Barrel is hit with new French oak staves, ex-bourbon barrel staves, and a blend of ex-sherry cask staves.”
However unlike their Small Batch, the Cask Strength focuses less on the sweeter notes found in its lower proofed sibling, and instead highlights more youthfulness and spice. The nose opens with noticeable youth and the palate brings forth heavy spice and tannic oak.
