This Year's Charity
Willow Park Wines & Spirits held our first Charity Wine Auction in 1994, and by 2001 the Vintage Fund was established. This endowment fund focuses on education, health care and senior's needs in our community. To date, the fund has raised over $4 million for local charity. Click here to learn more about the Vintage Fund.
This year, the funds raised will support the proposed Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation’s Centre for Child & Youth Mental Health and cancer support programs offered by Wellspring.
About the Centre for Child & Youth Mental Health:
Across Canada, the demand for child and adolescent mental health services has exploded. In southern Alberta, the current system is stretched beyond capacity, leaving too many families with unmet needs. With one in five Canadian children experiencing diagnosable psychiatric concerns, an estimated 60,000 children and teenagers in Calgary require mental health intervention in any given year. Families experiencing critical illness escalation and crisis are forced to seek assistance through the Emergency Department as there is no service located in the community that can respond immediately. This is a substantial service gap.
The vision for a new Centre for Child and Youth Mental Health is to provide excellence in care and “one-stop” access to: a walk-in clinic, intensive outpatient therapy and a community-based day hospital. This combination and co-location of services would enable families to better identify, develop treatment plans for and manage mental health issues before they escalate into crises.
About Wellspring Calgary:
While Calgarians have excellent medical resources to fight cancer, those living with cancer and their loved ones often find they need more – emotional, informational, and practical support. This is the critical gap Wellspring Calgary uniquely fills. We offer a comprehensive range of evidence-informed programs, resources and support for our members (anyone living with any type of cancer, and their significant caregivers) at any point on their cancer journey. Our services are all offered free of charge and no referral is required. We can provide onsite child minding and we have a stream of programs specifically for young adults (18-39) living with cancer.
