From the vineyard to the winery, the 2017 vintage is one that is precise and responsive. A great wine from the estate, the Château Belgrave 2017 is the result of the constant efforts put in by the estate’s technical team. Although the vineyard was hit by frost at the end of April, the most beautiful plots escaped harm. The favourable weather conditions up until the harvest helped the vines produce healthy berries with optimal ripeness, which display a superb aromatic concentration and a lovely freshness.

Coming from a blend largely dominated by the symbolic grape of the Left Bank, the Château Belgrave 2017 displays all the personality of Cabernet Sauvignon (88%) supplemented by Merlot (12%). The beautiful dark colour reveals berries that were filled with anthocyanins while the nose displays fruity aromas. The palate is juicy and dominated by the flavours and beautiful tannins of Cabernet Sauvignon that give it depth. An absolutely elegant Grand Cru Classé from the Haut-Médoc.

Wine Profile

other notes

Included as a 5th growth in the 1855 classification thanks to the quality of its deep gravel soil, Chateau Belgrave has been managed by the negociant firm of Dourthe since 1979. An attractive 18th century hunting lodge surrounded by sixty hectares of vines in a single block, Belgrave is located in the commune of Saint-Laurent, separated from the Saint-Julien appellation only by a small stream.

A great deal of work, passion, and energy have gone into producing wines worthy of one of the finest terroirs in the Medoc. The vineyard has been entirely renovated and is looked after with great care and attention.

The aging cellar was also refurbished in 2007 in an unabashedly modern style epitomising the rebirth of the estate. Thanks to this in-depth modernization and expert care, Chateau Belgrave is now among the elite of Medoc great growths.

tasting notes

92–94. Barrel Sample. Great black currant fruit shines through in this blend, which includes a higher-than-usual percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is fragrant, lightly spiced and offers a lively, bright aftertaste. At the same time, it does have the weight to age. Drink from 2023.
