The 2016 Teyssier, the entry level wine from Jonathan Maltus, is a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc cropped at 30 hectoliters per hectare between 3-13 October, matured with 25% new oak. There is 14.8% alcohol this year, comparatively high for the 2016 vintage. It has a ripe black cherry and iodine-scented bouquet with a hint of dark chocolate. The palate is ripe and generous on the entry. The tannins seem finer than the 2015s last year from barrel, clean and precise with a satisfying long finish. This may just surpass the 2015 Teyssier once in bottle." 88-89 Points Wine Advocate

Ratings
"Solid density of fruit to this young red with firm and silky tannins and lively acidity. Like it." 91-92 Points, James Suckling
Awards
This is one of the biggest 'brands' of St-Émilion from JC Maltus, and has a lovely easy drinking ripe fruit quality that is absolutely worth celebrating. It combines freshness with some of the expected glamour of a Maltus wine, probably helped by the malo in barrel, carried out on a portion of the crop. A successful wine. 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc 88 Points Decanter
