Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Wine Enthusiast - "This is a ripe, fruity wine that is initially so smooth in character. The tannins move in slowly to give just the right amount of structure to sustain the black currant fruits and ample acidity. The wine's overall balance suggests a promising future. Barrel Sample: 92-94 pts"
Ratings
Wine Spectator - "Lovely dark currant and plum reduction notes are carried by velvety tannins, with a light charcoal shading on the finish. Suave. Barrel Sample: 89-92 pts"
Awards
The Wine Advocate - "The 2015 Prieuré-Lichine has a tightly wound bouquet, crisp and a little leaner than some of its Margaux compadres. It just feels contained at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with gruff tannin on the entry. There is respectable depth here, but it feels linear and rather predictable towards the blackberry and cedar finish. I would like to see more complexity and personality come through by the time of bottling. It feels a bit bolshie at the moment. Barrel Sample: 88-90 pts"
Other Notes
Château Prieuré-Lichine's vast vineyard holdings (70 hectares) are located on some of the best gravelly outcrops in all five communes of the Margaux appellation. Owned by the Ballande group since June 1999, this estate is currently undergoing a major transformation in order to enhance the reputation of its superb terroir even further. The vine density at Prieuré-Lichine is quite high, and the vineyard is carefully managed plot by plot. The grapes are completely picked by hand into small crates and carefully gone over on a sorting table prior to crushing. Only the ripest, healthiest grapes are used. Malolactic fermentation takes place in barrel. The entire winemaking process is devoted to bringing out the charm, elegance and finesse characteristic of the finest wines in the Margaux appellation.
