After falling in love with Marlborough, the Mud House founders decided to start their own vineyards. After preparing the land and planting vines, they used the local earth to build their home - a mud house. That home became the brand. Twenty years on, Mud House remains as in touch with the land as the name suggests.
The soils and climate on New Zealand's rugged and breathtakingly beautiful South Island, home to the globe's most southerly vineyards, which are cultivated below the 45th parallel in the Central Otago region, give Mud House wines their iconic New World intensity. The winemakers nurture those expressive flavours with skill and patience, taking the time to craft wines they are proud of.
Central Otago is a true one-of-a-kind wine-growing region and is more dependent on one single variety than any other region in New Zealand. Pinot Noir claims nearly 75% of the region's vineyards. This is also New Zealand's only wine region with a continental climate, giving it more diurnal and seasonal temperature shifts than any other.
This Pinot Noir is juicy and enticing. Try pairing it with slow-roasted lamb shanks with Pinot Noir jus, with roasted winter vegetables or Coq au Vin with creamy mashed potatoes. It will age beautifully over the next five years.
Appearance: Ruby red in colour.
Nose: Aromas of bold cherry and fresh red berries are underpinned by savoury notes and spicy oak.
Palate: Dark fruit flavours flow into a smooth palate, delivering a long finish with fine tannins and juicy acidity.
