Spirited Hot Chocolate Inspiration

 Nothing is better on a cool winter’s day then a cup of delicious hot chocolate that warms your hands and takes the chill away. Our Trusted Expert Team has taken this childhood favourite drink and worked their magic to come up with some innovative and tasty recipes that are sure to help keep you toasty warm all winter long and also inspire you to create a new version or two of your own.

There are many scrumptious powdered hot chocolate mixes that you can use as your base for these cocktails or you can try this easy and classic recipe below to make it from scratch.

 Classic Whipped Hot Chocolate

 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

3/4 cup white sugar

1 pinch salt

1/3 cup boiling water

 3 1/2 cups 2% milk

¾ teaspoon vanilla extract

½ cup half-and-half cream

Whipped cream or marshmallows

 Combine the cocoa, sugar and pinch of salt in a saucepan. Blend in all the boiling water. Bring mixture to a soft boil while you stir. Simmer and keep stirring for about 2 minutes until fullycombined. **Watch that it doesn't scorch.

Stir in 3 1/2 cups of milk and heat until very hot, but do not let mixture boil! Remove from heat and add vanilla. Divide between 4 mugs. Add the cream to the mugs of cocoa to cool it to drinking temperature and top off with whipped cream or marshmallows.

 Nutty Hot Chocolate

 1 oz. brandy

1 oz. Frangelico

1 Tsp. Nutella

1-Cup Hot Chocolate

Whipped Cream and/or marshmallows

Combine brandy, Frangelico and Nutella in the bottom of mug or heat safe glass. Slowly pour hot chocolate into glass stirring so that the Nutella melts into the hot liquid. Top off with whipped cream or marshmallows and enjoy.

 Coconut Hot Chocolate

1.5 oz. coconut rum

1-Cup Hot Chocolate

2 TBSP Toasted Shredded Coconut

Whipped cream or marshmallows

 Combine rum and hot chocolate in mug or heat safe cup and mix together. Top off with whipped cream and sprinkle with toasted coconut and enjoy.

 Sexy Orange Hot Chocolate

 ½ oz. Pisco

1 oz. Orange Liqueur

1-Cup Hot Chocolate

1 Tsp. Orange Rind

 We’ve added a bit of South American spirit to this recipe. Pour pisco and orange liqueur into mug or heat safe glass and fill with hot chocolate. Top off with whipped cream and sprinkle withorange rind.

 Cool Attitude Hot Chocolate

 1 oz. Silver tequila

½ oz. White peppermint schnapps

1-Cup Hot Chocolate

Whipped cream or marshmallows

Chocolate shavings

 Mix tequila and peppermint schnapps in mug or heat safe glass. Fill cup with hot chocolate and top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.
