Fall Cheese Tips from Springbank Cheese Co.

 
  1. ​For the full experience, always bring your cheese up to room temperature. This will allow the texture and flavour to leap throughas the cheese maker meant it to be.
  2. When it comes to cheese, always eat what you enjoy, enjoy what you experience, and search for new experiences.
  3. Remember your guests and take them into consideration when choosing your cheese and any pairing ideas.
  4. Cheese and wine is a great pairing. Cheese and beer, Cheese and Scotch, Cheese and Whiskey are also great pairings.
  5. Label your selection so your guests/family are not asking you for the name of the cheese.
  6. Take into consideration flavor, look, texture, and if it is important to you color.
  7. To maximize shelf life, wrap well in plastic wrap, removing as much air as possible.
  8. Record your favourites when you taste them by writing them down, or taking a picture and emailing it to yourself. Build a digital (or non-digital) tasting log!
  9. When pairing, remember to take into account flavour, strength and texture - these all contribute to a great pairing.
  10. Brie is best when it is runny. If you have not tried it this way, put it on your list!
  11. Yes - it is okay to mix up a bunch of little pieces of different cheeses - melt them for cooking, put on a burger, make cheese waffles, mix a new fondue blend. Better to experiment than to have it wasted!
