Bordeaux Futures 101

Bordeaux Futures, or buying 'en primeur' as it is referred to in France, is a way for wine enthusiasts to purchase wine from a specific vintage before it is bottled and released into the market. Wines are sampled and reviewed by wine professionals from around the world about 18 months before the wine is to be released. From that sampling, the wine's first reviews are released along with the en primeur price.

Buying en primeur allows collectors of all levels to buy wines at a preview price that is usually much lower than when the wine is released en mass. This is also a way for wine enthusiasts to ensure that they don't miss out on a sought after or collectable wine that they are hoping to add to their cellar.

Can anyone buy en primeur?

Yes! Buying into Bordeaux futures is a great way for anyone to enter into buying wines from one of the most iconic regions in the world. There are great values to be found in buying futures and it is also a wonderful way for wine enthusiasts of all levels to be involved in tracking the evolution of the wines from barrel sampling before release to when the wine is bottled. Our very own Fine Wine Director, Peter Smolarz, is here to answer any questions you may have and help you get involved so that you can be just as excited as he is about the new releases. It's also important to note that we have no minimum bottle purchase required, so you can get started no matter what size your cellar is.

Currently we have the 2015 vintage being offered as en primeur with arrival date set as Fall 2018.
