  • The key white and black grape varieties and their characteristics
  • The important wine-producing regions of the world in which these grapes are grown
  • The production of sparkling, sweet, and fortified wines

  • Food and wine pairing principles
  • The principal categories of spirits and liqueurs, and how they are made


This qualification is assessed by a mulitple choise paper of 50 questions. Course delivered over three Sunday classes August 26th, September 9 & 16, 2018

Willow Park Wines & Spirits is excited to announce the offering of WSET Level 3 Award in Wines. This is our most advanced WSET course for individuals seeking to delve deeper into the world of wines. In this fifteen week course, you will gain in-depth knowledge in the following categories;

  • The key factors in the production of wine: location, grape growing, winemaking, maturation and bottling
  • The key characteristics of the principal:
  1. Still wines of the world
  2. Sparkling wines of the world
  3. Fortified wines of the world
  • How to make appropriate wine recommendations
  • How to taste wines using the WSET Level 3 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT)

Upon completion you will be able to assess wines accurately, and use your understanding to confidently explain wine style and quality. The exam is separated into 2 parts - Part 1 is assessed by a closed-book exam of 50 multiple-choice questions and a short-written answer paper. Part 2 is assessed by a blind tasting of two wines. You must pass both parts to successfully complete the course.

To be honest, wine is starting to take over my’s a lot of info to learn if I wanna make a career out of it ha. 

But I do like just taking walks around different parts of the city, people watching, looking at neat houses/buildings, things like that. I know, I live a thrilling life haha

$250 plus Windows on the World Basic Wine Course by Kevin Zarly Textbook (available at Willow Park Wines & Spirits) Taught by XL 103.1’s ‘The Coach’ Jamie Herbison Assisted by Samantha Nelmes, Willow Park Wines & Spirits Wine Room Manager

 Our ever popular Wine basics course is back for another season with wine expert Jamie Herbison leading this 5 class introduction to the world’s major wine producing countries. Jamie will base the class on the required textbook ‘Windows on the World Complete Wine Course’ by Kevin Zraly. Of course with his many years of food and wine learning, he will also share great recipes, entertaining tips and his favourite food and wine pairings. Each class will begin with a regional bubble and a tasty appetizer. Six to eight wines will be tasted and there will be a classic food and wine pairing each week and a selection of cheese to help strengthen your food and wine pairing skills.

 Official class start time will be 3:30 on Saturdays between Oct 13 and November 17 with no class on November 3, 2018. The class will run until 6 pm. Jamie and Samantha will be available from 3:15 pm each Saturday to answer questions and share a refreshing taste of bubbles.

Jamie’s lifelong passion for food and wine has recently been reinforced by a 3 year stint as a wine instructor at the Robert Mondavi Institute for Wine and Food Science in Napa Valley. Samantha has recently completed her Level 3 Wines & Spirits Education Trust Certification and brings several years of wine study and travel to the program.
