Our 2017 Bordeaux Offer
We are proud to offer our 21st Vintage of the Bordeaux Futures Program with the 2017. Though it is not as highly acclaimed as the previous two vintages, it still produced some great wines. Unexpected frost damage created devastating losses early in the season, resulting in a staggering decrease in production not seen since 1991. For those top Chateaux that escaped the frost, very good wine was made.
Chateaux closer to the Gironde Estuary on the left bank were relatively unharmed resulting in the top wines of the vintage. For the parcels undamaged south of the city of Bordeaux in Pessac Leognan, white grapes flourished and created some of the best dry whites in recent memory. The right bank suffered the most damage with the exception of the top vineyards of the higher plateau of St Emilion and Pomerol.
As I always say “Bordeaux does not have bad vintages just Good, Great and Outstanding” this vintage will prove it!
Cheers, Peter Smolarz, Director of Fine Wines & Purchasing
“2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability.”—(decanter.com, June 7, 2018)
