Canadian Women for Women in Afgahnistan

Posted on by Sarah Ross

Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan (CW4WAfghan) is a registered Canadian charity based in Calgary, Canada and Kabul, Afghanistan, formed to raise funds and inspire Canadians to take action. In partnership with Afghan women, their organization focuses on improving conditions of human rights, ending women’s oppression and providing opportunities for Afghan women to live their lives with dignity, certainty and purpose. Since their founding in 1998, CW4WAfghan has:

  • Trained more than 10,000 teachers
  • Provided literacy classes for 5,000 students
  • Distributed 300 school library starter kits
  • Established 42 community libraries and 262 science labs
  • Shared thousands of resources through our Darakht-e Danesh Digital Library
  • Developed advocacy toolkits and engaged tens of thousands in promoting

“Education is a Right” Major program includes five major areas:

Investing in Basic Education, Community Literacy, Technology for Education, Public Engagement and Advocacy.

Due to the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, their mandate is more critical now more than ever. CW4WAfghan’s work will continue and will adapt to the changing needs. Many CW4WAfghan projects remain active and were not interrupted by the change in government in August. The Darakht-e Danesh Library, the courseware platform, DDL Courses, and other work they do that makes use of the power of technology to deliver learning and teaching at a distance, continues.

They will be expanding virtual education opportunities so that women and girls who were cut off from their conventional educations in Afghanistan can still access learning opportunities.

They will continue to stand in solidarity with the women of Afghanistan and find ways to deliver support to the most vulnerable. With your support, CW4WAfghan will continue to design and deliver programs that work to put this belief into practice.
